Author Bio:

With the self-publication in 1991 of his debut novel, INVISIBLE LIFE, E. Lynn Harris did something important. Selling his story of a black man's coming of age and homosexual awakening out of his car and door-to-door in neighborhood shops, Harris helped to begin to bring some attention to a community that was silenced and intentionally silent. Harris was born in Flint, Michigan in 1955 and grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas. He attended the University of Arkansas, where he was the first black, male cheerleader. He worked for many years in computer sales, publishing his first book at the age of 36. Before his untimely death in 2009 from heart disease, he would go on, however, to publish 11 novels and a memoir, which portray the lives of black men who are openly or closeted gay (aka "on the down low") and the women and men who love them. His characters broadened the types of fictional portrayals that African-American men had previously received and shed initial light on a group in which secrecy and guilt were--and continue to be--the brutal reality for many. His novels, including JUST AS I AM, A LOVE OF MY OWN and ANY WAY THE WIND BLOWS were commercial successes, and ten of his books reached the New York Times best-seller list.
