Author Bio:

Thriller writer and magazine editor Colin Harrison entered Haverford College in the fall of 1978 and immediately began his writing career. He cut class often to explore the inner sanctums of Philadelphia--to go places "where a kid from rural Pennsylvania shouldn't go"--in the hopes of accumulating novel-worthy material. He gained plenty during the summer between his junior and senior years of college while working for a newspaper in Jacksonville, Florida. Eye-opening experiences, including a night on the job with an ambulance crew, inspired him to begin writing his first manuscript. After graduation, Harrison wrote for Haverford magazine and in 1984 entered the creative writing graduate program at the University of Iowa. There, he met his wife, writer Kathryn Harrison, and gave up on his first novel after several rejections from publishers. Several years passed before his fiction caught the eye of editors, and in 1990, BREAK AND ENTER was published. Since then, Harrison has made a career of writing about generally good people caught in the mysterious haze of urbanity, who, as he did during his college years, are going places they "shouldn't go." His other books include BODIES ELECTRIC (1993), MANHATTAN NOCTURNE (1996), and AFTERBURN (2000). In 1998, the prestigious, traditionally literary publisher Farrar, Straus & Giroux lured Harrison away from Random House imprint Crown Books with an impressive low seven-figure two-book deal. In addition to writing, Harrison edits both fiction and nonfiction as deputy editor of Harper's magazine, where he has worked with such illustrious writers as David Foster Wallace, David Guterson, and Bob Shacochis.
