Synopsis:
|
In this novel by a bestselling author of women's fiction, a Manhattan woman in a cold, repressive marriage reassesses her priorities after she survives a Maine boating accident that kills nine others. Having been saved from death, Julia is now hungry for life and purpose. She expresses part of that desire through her growing connection to Noah, the lonely lobsterman and fellow passenger who rescued her, and also forges a relationship with the third survivor, a young woman who was rendered mute by the trauma.

Author Bio:
A native of Newton, Massachusetts, Barbara Delinsky attended Tufts University, where she met her husband, Stephen Delinsky, a lawyer who once served as chief of staff for the attorney general. After earning a master's degree in sociology at Boston University, she began working at the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. She also worked as a reporter and photographer before taking time off to give birth to her son, Eric, the first of her three children. Working closely with the breast cancer advisory committee at Massachusetts General Hospital, Delinsky became committed to its goal of raising awareness of the disease, which took her mother's life at the age of 45 when she was only 8 years old. Delinsky began her writing career at the age of 35 after reading a newspaper article on female genre writers. Feeling she could successfully join their ranks, Delinsky wrote her first romance, "Hills of Eden", in only three and a half weeks. She continued this torrid pace for the next 18 years, during which she penned 66 novels, many of them bestsellers. She began with a formulaic approach, constructing 10 chapters of 20 pages each, though she has since gone on to expand this structure. Her other interests include hiking, crossword puzzles, reading and, when possible, vacationing with her husband.
