APA HONORS THE YEAR’S BEST AUDIOBOOKS AT
14th ANNUAL AUDIES GALA IN NEW YORK CITY
New York, NY – May 29, 2009 – The Audio Publishers Association (APA) announced the winners of the 2009 Audies® at a formal Gala at the New-York Historical Society on May 29th in New York City. The Audies are the only awards program in the United States honoring spoken word entertainment.
The Audiobook of the Year Audie went to The Graveyard Book, written and read by Neil Gaiman in recognition for its combination of original musical composition, superb production, and effective social media marketing.
Gaiman was there to accept the award, and in fact was on Twitter throughout the Gala, keeping his fans abreast of the awards. The Graveyard Book also won the Audie Award for "Children's Titles – Ages 8-12." He posted this comment on his blog: "People ask whether winning awards means anything when you've already won, and sometimes it means more and sometimes it means less. But The Graveyard Book winning Audiobook of the Year means more that I can say." Read the full blog entry.
