Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Martin Luther King, Jr., (January 15, 1929-April 4, 1968) was a charismatic hero battling for racial equality, from the 1956 bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama and non-violent protest marches through to his famous "I have a dream" speech in 1963 at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.
On the third Monday of January each year we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King
Day, the only national holiday commemorating the actions of an African-American.
Originally petitioned to honor Dr. King's dedication to trade unions, it was
established on November 2, 1983 by President Ronald Reagan.
