An English gentleman becomes embroiled in adventure because he looks exactly like the King of Ruritania. He agrees to impersonate the king to defend him from a treacherous plot. But when he falls in love with the king's betrothed, he realizes he must relinquish her when the throne is secured. Giving her up is harder than he thought – certainly harder than dealing with scoundrels.
