The Count of Monte Cristo is a tale of revenge and retribution. Edmond Dantès, a young, energetic sailor, is falsely accused of treason on his wedding day and incarcerated in the forbidding Château d’If. His escape and ultimate revenge on those who wronged him makes this one of the most thrilling stories in French literature, as compelling now as when it was first published in 1846.

Out of Order!

The recording is on the discs out of order. I cannot believe it was released this way. The story seemed to start abruptly, and there seemed to be gaps, but I thought maybe the writing was just rough that way. When I got to disc 20, I got to hear the actual beginning of the story, and then it progressed through all the missing parts. It rather ruined the experience.

The reader has a great voice, seems to pronounce all the french names authentically, and has a large repertoire of voices, although occasionally he gets them a little mixed up.
