Summary

Often shocking, Ted Wallace, theatre critic and failed poet, has opinions on everything. Often rather crude, rather long opinions, they are fueled by vast amounts of whiskey. Just as life's at its lowest ebb, Ted meets Jane Swann, whose godfather he was until her mother fired him. She has a financially interesting proposal for Ted, and since he's just been sacked for pointing out a new play's deficiencies from the theatre stalls, he's got nothing better to do. As it involves a few drinks with his old friend Lord Logan at Swafford Hall, the witnessing of alleged miracles and other fantastic phenomena, Ted agrees to her plan.
