After his daughter's murder, a grieving father confronts God with desperate questions -- and finds unexpected answers -- in this riveting and deeply moving #1 NYT bestseller. When
Mackenzie Allen Phillips's youngest daughter Missy is abducted during a family vacation, he remains hopeful that she'll return home. But then, he discovers evidence that she may have been brutally
murdered in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later, in this midst of his great sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note that's supposedly from God, inviting him back to

“What's most amazing about the whole story is that a fifty-seven-year-old Canadian who was coming out of bankruptcy and working three jobs, including as a janitor, and had never published anything wrote a book that changed how millions of people relate to God.”
—Oregonian (Portland, OR)
“Riveting, with twists that defy your expectations while teaching powerful, theological lessons without patronizing. I was crying by page 100. You cannot read it without your heart becoming involved.” —Gayle E. Erwin, author of The Jesus Style
William Paul Young was born a Canadian and along with three younger siblings was raised among a stone-age tribe by his missionary parents in the highlands of what was New Guinea (West
Papua). The family returned to Canada, where his father pastured a number of churches for various denominations. By the time he entered Canadian Bible College, Paul had attended a dozen schools. He
completed his undergraduate degree in religion at Warner Pacific College in Portland, Oregon. While in Oregon, he attended seminary and met and married Kim. Together they celebrate “the
wastefulness of grace” with their six children, two daughters-in-law, and now two grandchildren.
